COPA forced to cope

Patent applications are supposed to cite any prior works (often referred to as ‘prior art’) that the patent builds upon. This is to make sure that the patent owner and the public in general are aware of any existing patents that may affect the validity of the new patent. And it just so happens that Dr. Wright's patent was one of those prior works.
